"Going to the woods is going home."- John Muir
When I was young, I spent every waking hour outside catching butterflies or "saving" baby Robins. When inside, I only dreamed of being outside- it's where I was happiest. This remains true to this very day. I try to observe nature daily- even if it's just simply wandering into my backyard as I have put much time and effort into making my own little corner of the world wildlife friendly.
About my photography
I enjoy capturing images of our natural world. Birds are my main focus, but I will shoot anything when the opportunity arises. I also enjoy experimenting with long exposure and black and white photography. It's not often that you will find me without my Nikon by my side. Everything I know about photography and post-processing has been self taught. I have won numerous nature photography contests as well as having my work published in many magazines such as Birds and Blooms, Birdwatching, National Wildlife, Pastelle and Bluebird Journal.
I live with my wife (Dena) of 28 years in Normal, Illinois. I have two daughters (Jordan 26 and Sidney 22). Both have an interest in photography and birding. My wife is very supportive of my birding lifestyle and will often accompany me on a quest to find a reported rare bird. I teach a birding class through Heartland Community College through their continued education program and enjoy every minute of it. My other passion is Chicago Blackhawks hockey. Go Hawks!
If you are ever looking for me, go to Evergreen Lake- I love that place!
